Ask Jack and Jill.com Current question on Cooking:
Q: What kind of food does red wine and white wine go with?  Lexus K.

Jack's Answer:
You could really go in depth with this question but I'm going to keep it simple.
If you are eating fish or chicken, go with a white wine.
If you are eating meat, go with red.
If you are going to be drinking both types of wine then go with white first, then red.

Jill's Answer:
Traditionally white wine goes well with seafood and chicken, while red goes well with red meat.  Read the labels on different bottles of wines, many times the maker of the wine lists what type of food pairs well with the bottle. Feel free to mix it up, there are no rules set in stone. Experiment for yourself.

Q: How do you boil an egg
By Ralph
Jack's Answer:
I use a small pot fill till the water covers the eggs and  then turn on stove to high. When it starts boiling I turn down to medium for about 10 minutes then I take off the heat. Then right into  the sink, drain the hot water and fill with cold water and some ice cubes. Let it sit for a couple minutes then peel or just put in the refrig. till you want to use them.
Jill's Answer:
This is how I do it and it comes out perfect everytime. Place eggs in a large saucepan. Cover them with cool water by 1 inch. Slowly bring water to a boil over medium heat; when the water has reached a boil, cover and remove from heat. Let sit 12 minutes.2.Transfer eggs to a colander; place under cool running water to stop the cooking. Eggs can be peeled and served immediately. Remaining eggs, with shells on, may be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days

Q: What should I cook for my first date at home? By Ann P
Jack's Answer:
Whatever you do make it simple.  Also, the less time you have to work on it the better. You DO want to spend time enjoying your company. I would save some easy preparations for when your date arrives like cutting vegetables. They will enjoy watching you prepare food for them. Make sure you have some wine and something to nibble on while they watch you cook. Hopefully by this time in your relationship you have an idea of what they like and dislike.  I would stay away from food that you have never cooked before. Chicken is always a safe bet but boring.
It is really easy to bake a leg of lamb. You season it and toss it in the oven till the temp is right. Whatever you do make sure you have a good take out number on hand just in case.
Jill's Answer:
I would go with something in the crock pot.  It's almost impossible to mess up, and makes the house smell amazing.  Also it allows more time with your date, since it requires almost no maintenance.  Start first thing in the morning with a boneless pork loin.  Rub the outside of the pork with cinnamon, and cover the bottom of the crock pot with about 2-3 inches of apple juice.  Next cover the roast with apple butter.  Place it in the crock pot and turn it on low.  Don't lift the lid for at least 4-5 hours (depending on the crock pot).  When you are about an hour to 2 hours away from serving it, take a fork and shred the meat into the juice.  Replace the lid and let it simmer on low or warm.  Twenty minutes prior to eating, prepare some Jasmine rice to accompany it.  Once it's finished you are ready to serve. The sauce from the pork is excellent with the Jasmine rice.   Serve with wine or beer, whatever your drinks of choice are.  Use a crock pot liner bag and your cleanup is ultra easy.  Enjoy!
